A fashion show does not need a new idea in every look to hold our attention. Sometimes, one familiar piece is enough. For Spring/Summer 2027, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons made the skirt the centre of Prada’s Milan Fashion Week runway—and explored just how many identities it could have.

Across 63 looks, the skirt shifted from simple and practical to sculptural and embellished. Pleats changed its movement; crystals brought decoration to functional fastenings; unexpected materials made familiar shapes worth a second look. Paired with shirts, sweaters and bra tops, each version took on a different mood.

What makes the collection interesting is the discipline behind it. By returning to the same garment again and again, Prada and Simons invited us to notice the choices that usually pass quickly on a runway: where a skirt sits, how it moves and what happens when it meets another piece of clothing. The repetition made the differences more striking.

The show also made a case for personal style. A skirt can be understated or expressive, dressed for an ordinary day or made to feel entirely unexpected. Prada did not present one definitive way to wear it. Instead, the collection showed how a familiar garment can become a starting point for experimentation.

Among Milan’s many runway statements this season, Prada’s stood out for the clarity of its idea. It took a piece almost everyone recognises and made us look at it again. That is the kind of fashion moment that stays with you after the final look.
